Living in a broken world means that life causes us to suffer in some ways. Ways that may seem impossible to fix.
Family breakdown, lack of finances, relationships never working out, failure in school, health issues that won’t go away, a heartbreak that feels like it will never end.
In these situations we can become convinced that things will never change. Sometimes we don’t believe that there will be a way out for us. Yet on Sundays we were read stories and get excited over the miracles God did in the Bible. But we don’t believe that a miraculous change can happen in our lives.
I want to encourage you to believe in the God of the impossible.
God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). We believe that right?
So think about an area in your life which seems impossible; it could be something listed above or something more personal to you. Now I want you to think about someone in the Bible who was in the same position as you.
Maybe you feel like Joseph who was betrayed? Or the widow who was on her last plate of food? Or Moses who felt under-qualified? Or the woman with the issue of blood who had been struggling with her health for years? Maybe you feel like the woman caught in the act of adultery, surrounded by shame and judgement? Maybe the prodigal son who has no connection to your family?
Once you’ve chosen the person, think of how that story ended – God performed a miracle!! He provided food, He restored families, He healed completely, He saved and forgave.
I want you to believe that this can be your story too. Just as we believe in the God of the impossible in their stories, He can be the God of the impossible in yours too.
For the person you chose earlier – write that person’s story and their miracle on a piece of paper. Put it on your wall. Think about it every day. And have faith that as God turned it around for them, He can do the same for you. Sometimes the miracle was quick, sometimes it took years. But believe that your miracle will come.
Bring your impossible situation this weekend and contend for it in prayer and faith. CONTEND with the God of the Impossible leading the way.
Prayer: God of the impossible, we lift our faith to you. We CONTEND for our families, our homes, our relationships, our health, our children and young people, our churches, our communities and our mental wellbeing. We CONTEND for those things that we do not even recognise that we need to CONTEND for. We place every dark place at your feet. You are light and we trust you to shine through that which we have wrestled with. This weekend Lord, we surrender to you! We trust you to meet all of our needs according to your riches in glory. We offer you limitless worship, giving to you parts of ourselves that we have previously withheld. You are the God of the impossible and we wait in expectant hope for you this weekend. Amen.
